HCSI TO ADOPT SINGAPOREAN MATH AND SCIENCE CURRICULUM
tarting School Year 2010-2011, Harvest Christian School International (HCSI) will be adopting the Singaporean Math and Science Curriculum for Grade 1, 2 and 3 levels. Thereafter, one level up will be added every school year until High School for the use of this curriculum. The Singaporean Approaches to teaching Math and Science will also be introduced in higher Elementary and High School Levels starting School Year 2010-2011 to prepare the students in these levels to adopt the new curriculum in the coming school years. Singapore is known to be consistently in the top rank rating of TIMMS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) in Math and Science in 1995, 1999, 2003 and 2007. TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) is designed to measure trends in students’ mathematics and science achievement worldwide in four-year cycles.
For the Singaporean Math, the new curriculum uses the Model Method of teaching while for Science it uses the Inquiry Method.
The Model Method is based on a Concrete, Pictorial and Abstract way of teaching. Concepts are taught in a systematic way. It emphasizes on meta-cognition theories and complex constructivisim. Its learning is more on activity based.
